The Climate Sustainability PLATFORM is a open forum for climate negotiators, sustainability influencer's and people from developed and developing countries across the world. We bring together scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, policy makers, politicians, youth, women, men and all stakeholders and all people to hold dialogues and to forge Climate Sustainability on earth.
The Climate Sustainability PLATFORM is an open ended concept which attempts to bring together the decision makers and influencers from different stakeholders, sectors and people. The platform utilizes existing processes, forums, organizations and mechanisms to create collective consensus building towards a climate sustainability agreement. The platform can operate anywhere, under any forum, and by anyone that aspires to create a common climate sustainability regime on earth! Wherever civil society is organising themselves, we request that they invite and include a platform to engage in dialogues with the negotiators. Wherever scientists meet, ensure a platform to engage in dialogue with policy makers. Wherever business meets, invite decision makers to hear your proposals. Wherever people meet to discuss climate change, we appeal that they go beyond their own hemispheres, comfort zones, friends, networks, constituencies, ideologies, and engage decision makers and stakeholders by creating a 'Climate Sustainability Platform'.
The Climate Sustainability PLATFORM is moderated by the Centre for Environment and Development (CED) and Global Sustainability Solutions (GLOSS) with the support of dozens of organizations and individuals across the world. Created in 2009, the PLATFORM was officially launched just prior to the Copenhagen Climate Summit or the UNFCCC COP15 in Denmark. About fifty leaders from all regions and stakeholders gathered as the PLATFORM to organise dialogues, campus, exhibition, exchange, entrepreneur and a manifesto.
The Climate Sustainability PLATFORM message from Copenhagen was; "Climate and Sustainability need to be addressed together, not decoupled. Therefore, the world needs a binding international agreement on 'Climate Sustainability'. An agreement on Climate Sustainability will be decisive in coming together as one world to reverse decades of irresponsible consumption, production, and trade patterns and to build an equitable, fair, and just world. Climate sustainability must be the shared vision of the UNFCCC because it is the aspiration of the people. Climate Sustainability addresses pressing issues of poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation through relevant strategies for mitigation, adaptation, finance, and technology sharing. Governments must demonstrate political will and vision by signing a binding 'Climate Sustainability Agreement' enforced through strong compliance mechanisms. Only this will empower people to live in harmony with all species in a healthy planet that ensures wellbeing and happiness to all."
